International Students Transitioning into Foreign Universities

International-Students-Transitioning

Attending university abroad can be an exciting, fun, inspiring and defining moment for many international students who seek to pursue higher education outside of their home countries. It can be a life changing experience characterized by lasting memories, academic progress, building of meaningful relationships as well as opportunities for career growth and success. Many international students choose to pursue an education in a foreign university because of the range of academic pathways that are available. There is also a substantial percentage of international students who receive academic and sports scholarships to study in a foreign country, as they would have earned the right to be positioned to take advantage of their opportunities.

However, while there are some international students who are able to thrive and maximize their full potential in an American based educational system, there are some who struggle to be the best versions of themselves in this new and foreign environment. Yes, the primary objective for any international student pursuing a university degree abroad is to obtain tertiary level qualifications and certification (BSc, MSc, PHD etc.), but the inevitable presence of certain challenges can significantly hinder their overall success in this regard. Transitioning to a foreign country and environment may be challenging and requires effective adjustment to the overall culture and educational system of this new environment. If this assimilation does not occur, students may experience difficulties in unlocking their full potential. For example, new students may be so preoccupied with the social aspect of campus life, that they neglect their academic obligations in the process. This may be related to a lack of self-discipline in addition to a level of independence & freedom that they may have never experienced before as they are now entirely on their own in a new country.

As such, Blue Phoenix Mentorship Services focuses on facilitating and enabling the development and empowerment of international students who are transitioning into a foreign country to pursue a higher-level education. We pride ourselves on providing a fun, yet structured, engaging, and interactive virtual environment, through which first time international students can familiarize themselves with the various challenges and obstacles that they may encounter when they begin their new journeys abroad. Additionally, we will equip these students by familiarizing them with the different challenges they may likely encounter, as well as effective coping strategies and techniques for them to overcome these challenges in a productive and healthy manner. In Blue Phoenix sessions, international students will acquire various skills, knowledge and relevant information that can enable them to be the best version of themselves in their new environment, so that they may be empowered to maximize their full potential. Coping with the everyday challenges of an international student may not be easy for everyone, so it is our focus to assist individuals in circumventing these challenges, so that they may achieve all their personal, academic and career goals.
