Adolescent Development Programme: Laventille Netball League (Female Cohort)

In collaboration with Republic Bank Ltd., we facilitated an incredibly fun and engaging one-day programme with the female adolescent and young-adult members of the Laventille Netball League. The main objective of this programme was to provide participants with knowledge and skills that they can apply to their daily lives both on and off the court, to effectively overcome the challenges they may be experiencing. The three topics covered for this programme were Self-Esteem/Self-Confidence, Stress Management and Resisting Peer Pressure.

The sessions for each topic were a complete success, as the majority of participants would have actively participated in all of the fun activities incorporated into each session. Apart from this, we were able to easily facilitate meaningful discussion around each topic, as participants considered the content to be of great value and relevant to their daily lives. In fact, some participants were disappointed during the conclusion of the programme, as they requested additional sessions on other topics that they frequently struggle with.

We were able to obtain objective feedback from the participants and their coaches on their thoughts on the programme. This feedback was most positive and encouraging, as all participants indicated that they found the programme to be very engaging, informative, practical, and fun. One participant indicated, “It was an excellent programme, I was able to gain a lot of useful knowledge and I would enjoy attending another one of their programmes”, while another participant said, “I enjoyed how they made every session fun for us to understand and relate to the topics”. When asked which topic stood out the most and why, one participant stated, “stress management because I received excellent pointers on how to manage stress and apply them to my daily life”. At the end of the programme, participants received certificates of participation and refreshments that concluded a successful day. We aimed to positively impact the lives of these participants by providing them with knowledge, skills, and insight into their respective challenges so that they may be empowered to overcome them, and we were able to do so. This was especially evident where at the beginning of the programme, participants appeared to be bored, disinterested and sleepy. This soon changed within minutes as all our activities and discussion fostered high levels of interaction and engagement, which lasted throughout the entire programme. We were incredibly grateful for their attendance and active participation, as the interest of participants is always essential in facilitating an impactful programme.
